When breadwinners are incarcerated, families are in danger of falling apart. Legal and court fees render even a moderately wealthy family penniless. Under the financial stress of an immediately reduced income, families are confronted with the possibility of homelessness. They do not have the funds to pay monthly utilities or buy basic necessities. The collect calls that keep them connected to their loved ones are impossible to afford. Visits are out of the question.
Aleph’s F.E.E.L.S. division networks with local and national resources and charitable organizations to alleviate these hardships. When all such resources are exhausted, Aleph offers additional financial support to destitute families, such as:
Prepaid accounts in local grocery stores Gift certificates to clothing stores
Payments to landlords to prevent eviction Assistance for gas, phone, and electric utilities
Expenses for childcare and school supplies
Resources for adults to find employment
Financial and emotional support for:
Medical emergencies Bar or Bat Mitzvahs and wedding celebrations Children with special needs
Stipends to families so they can purchase holiday necessities
