Aleph's Center for Halacha and American Law

In addition to sponsoring live lectures, Aleph's Center for Halacha and American Law has distributed thousands of audiotapes by leading experts on Torah ethics
To provide ethical education to schools, workplace environments and the general public,Aleph has developed a Center for Halacha and American Law, whose major objective is to enhance the Jewish community's appreciation of the requirements imposed by Halacha to conduct all business and personal transactions in accordance with the principles of the Torah, particularly the obligation under Halacha to abide faithfully by the law of the civil authority (" dina d'malchusa dina "). To that end, the Center presents and disseminates unambiguous Halachic and legal source materials through a variety of media, including authorship and distribution of relevant tapes and articles of note, a regular ethics column in publications such as Amit , publication of a Journal of Halacha and American Law , and sponsorship of the "Jewish Law" Internet site located at http://www.jlaw.com.

The Center also has sponsored lectures around the country, including a presentation by Rabbi Hershel Schachter, a Dean of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University, and by Rabbi Yissochar Frand of the Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, Maryland, a world-recognized Torah lecturer.

Aleph's Center for Halacha and American Law co-sponsored the Agudath Israel of America conference on "The Interface of Ethics and Halacha in the Business and Professional World," held in New York City. More than 500 attendees received from Aleph a set of two audiotapes discussing issues of honesty, integrity and a proper attitude toward conduct in the work place, by Rabbis Paysach J. Krohn, author of the famous "Maggid" series and one of the most dynamic and sought-after speakers in the Jewish world, and Yisroel Reisman, a Dean of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath,Brooklyn, New York, and who is well known for his popular and well-attended "Pathways of the Prophets" discourses. Those attendees and others since have also received a special 120-page compendium that Aleph prepared of 30 years of articles from The Jewish Observer on the subject of Torah Ethics and Values. The feedback has been so phenomenal that Mesorah Publishers, publishers of the "ArtScroll" series of Hebrew books, has printed an expanded hardcover edition of this collection entitled "The Ethical Imperative."

Aleph helped sponsor Artscroll's publication of The Ethical Imperative, a collection of inspiring articles on Torah ethics and values.

Professor Steven Resnicoff of Depaul University School of Law in Chicago, and Rabbi Sholom Kamenetsky of the Talmudic Academy of Philadelphia, have developed an ethics curriculum for Aleph to be offered at Jewish High Schools across the country. Two Yeshiva High Schools have already begun offering this special class: Yeshiva University High School in Los Angeles (under the tutelage of Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein) and the Talmudic Academy of Philadelphia (under Rabbi Kamenetsky). Other schools are signing up, too. Copies of our curriculum and samples of our various tapes and publications are available upon request.
